Held at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel, Cebu City, Cebu, Philippines on March 14, 2009. Melindo (18W-0L) of the Philippines fought Muhammad Rachman (62W-6L-5D) of Indonesia on the Minimumweight Division.
Milan Melindo stepped up in class to win the biggest fight of his career, defeating aged former IBF minimumweight champion Muhammad Rachman via ten-round unanimous decision. Melindo was simply too fast for Rachman, who was slow and unable to pull the trigger.
For the first eight rounds, Melindo used his superior foot movement and hand speed to bewilder Rahman, who was content to plod forward, throwing one or two punches at a time.
Rachman was slightly more successfully in the later rounds but never really got untracked or landed any meaningful punches. The result was never in question. The judges’ scores: 97-93, 98-92, and a ridiculously close 96-94.H
